Alena Mahas Speech-Language Pathology, PC. is seeking qualified Licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to provide essential speech and language services to juvenile delinquent youth for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) across its residential care system. These services will be provided at a range of facilities, including secure, limited-secure, and non-secure facilities that house youth in various stages of rehabilitation and transition.The

OCFS Locations are:Secure Facilities (1):

  • Brookwood Secure Center for Youth, Claverack, NY

Non-Secure Facilities (1):

  • Brentwood Residential Center, Dix Hills, NY – starting November 2025

Limited-Secure Facilities (6):

  • Highland Residential Center, Highland, NY
  • Industry Residential Center, Rush, NY
  • Finger Lakes Residential Center, Lansing, NY
  • Taberg Residential Center for Girls, Taberg, NY
  • Harriet Tubman Residential Center for Girls, Auburn, NY
  • Goshen Secure Center, Goshen, NY

The hours and availability at each facility are subject to change depending on the fluctuating student population throughout the year. Please check availability at specific facility during application process.

The facilities follow NY DOE School Calendar September – June, with possibility of Make ups during the summer.

The majority of youth in secure facilities have a history of delinquent behavior and involvement with the juvenile justice system. These youth are often sentenced by adult courts and require intensive, structured programming. Youth in limited-secure and non-secure facilities are adjudicated as juvenile delinquents by family court and are placed in these facilities for rehabilitative purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Speech and Language Therapy: Assess, diagnose, and provide individualized speech and language therapy to youth in OCFS facilities.
  • Treatment Plans: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, tailored to the unique needs of each youth, addressing both communication and behavioral challenges.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other multidisciplinary team members (e.g., counselors, educators, mental health staff) to ensure a holistic approach to each youth’s development and rehabilitation.
  • Behavioral Challenges: Recognize and address the complex behavioral and emotional needs of youth, using trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress reports as required by OCFS.

Qualifications:

  • Licensing: Must hold a valid New York State Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) license.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with juvenile populations or in secure/juvenile residential settings is preferred. 1 year of Initial Evaluation Speech Therapy and Language Development Services.
  • Behavioral Knowledge: Ability to understand and address the challenging behaviors of youth, particularly those with histories of delinquency and trauma.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for effective collaboration with staff, youth, and families.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a high-stress environment and handle diverse and complex cases.
  • In-Person Commitment: This is an in-person only position; remote work is not an option. Hours of facility operation are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Security Procedures:
Please note that all facilities have strict security policies that must be followed. Alena Mahas Speech-Language Pathology, PC. will work with OCFS to obtain the necessary clearances for providers to access the facilities. As part of the clearance process, the provider will be required to provide the following information (but not limited to) to gain access to the delivery location:

  • Company Name
  • Employee’s Name (as it appears on ID)
  • Valid Driver’s License Number
  • Vehicle Information (make, model, license plate number, etc.)

Compensation:$110.00 per hour on W-2
